Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The North Rhine Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians has pleaded for a more straightforward procedure in the run-up to appointments for the vaccination of over 80-year-olds living at home.

"We can confirm that we have pleaded with the NRW Ministry of Health for a division of the call into smaller (age) groups so that not so many people eligible for vaccination try more or less at the same time to get an appointment as early as possible," explained a spokesman for the KVNO on Tuesday on request.

When appointments for the corona vaccinations began to be allocated to the approximately one million people over 80 who live in their own household, the registration websites and hotlines were overrun on Monday.

On the first day, according to the Ministry of Health, vaccination appointments were given to a good 122,000 people aged 80 and over in North Rhine-Westphalia until 5 p.m.

According to the information provided by the KVNO alone, online appointment scheduling was accessed more than 36 million times on Monday.

“Business Insider” had reported warnings from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians that a blanket call to all over 80-year-olds would lead to technical problems with the website and the hotline.

«A staggered information or appointment allocation within this group of people would have preferred a number of people and disadvantaged another group.

In our opinion, this would have violated the principle of equal treatment, "Business Insider quotes a spokesman for the NRW Ministry of Health.
