While the deputies are debating on Tuesday a bill against animal abuse, David Hallyday explains to Europe 1 why he is committed against this protean phenomenon.

"It is high time to worry about everything around us, including animal suffering," he defends.

INTERVIEW

The National Assembly debates on Tuesday a bill from the majority against mistreatment, echoing the concerns of society and while one in two French people own a pet.

According to the Ifop barometer for the 30 Millions d'Amis Foundation, nearly 7 in 10 French people (69%) consider that animals are poorly defended by politicians.

Parliamentarians are therefore "under the pressure of public opinion," said the institute.

Especially since personalities take a stand, like David Hallyday, who explains at the microphone of Europe 1 why he defends the animal cause and fights captivity.

"Something dear to me"

"Since I love animals, that is to say since I was very little, I position myself as a defender of my environment and animals", says the singer.

"It's not new. I've done it in music and songs many times."

To the point, moreover, of mentioning on his social networks that he is an "activist" of this cause.

"It's clear that it's part of my life. I give my voice, I do actions, I don't eat animals, so I totally respect what I say. It's something that is dear to me. ", he defends.

In January 2020, the singer posed for a campaign by the Peta association against the presence of animals in circuses.

"For animals, the circus is a prison. Let's break their chains", was it written on the poster, showing the artist chains on his wrists to denounce this phenomenon.

For David Hallyday, it is "high time to worry about everything around us, including animal suffering".

And while Parc Astérix announced the closure of its dolphinarium, opened in 1989, the musician insists on the importance of "repositioning, that is to say where the animals go, where they are used. There is everything. the follow-up which is as important as the action. "

Adaptation according to species

This monitoring notably involves actions adapted to each species.

"Wild animals that are born in a captive environment, we cannot put them back in the wild. I am for the wild animal to live in its environment, no matter what. Now we see it with the dolphins that were born in captivity, there are some that cannot be released because they lack the instinct of the ocean. "

The question of raising awareness among young audiences with animals also arises: "There are species that can be kept in appropriate places, in enclosures. These are species that cannot be returned to nature", assures the singer and activist, according to whom "we are much more aware today" than before to the animal cause.
