Magdeburg (dpa) - After reports about an observation of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt by the state protection of the constitution, the party executive comes together for a special meeting.

At the meeting this Tuesday evening, the next steps will be discussed, said party leader Martin Reichardt of the German press agency.

Reichardt thinks it is likely that his party will complain against the classification by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution: "I assume that we will - as in similar cases in the federal government and other countries - take legal action."

According to information from the German Press Agency, the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt has been under surveillance by intelligence agencies for a few days.

According to state law, this is only possible if the authority has sufficient evidence that the party is pursuing anti-constitutional efforts.

First the "Mitteldeutsche Zeitung" reported on the AfD observation.

The Ministry of the Interior and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution announced on request that they would not comment on the reports.
