A warning to rich countries: You will lose $ 4.5 trillion if you neglect to vaccinate the poorest

A new study revealed that the attempt by rich countries to control Corona vaccines will cost them at least $ 4.5 trillion from their collapsed economy due to the pandemic, according to the "Guardian" newspaper.

The study, conducted by researchers at a number of institutions, including Harvard University and Koç University in Istanbul, confirmed that vaccinating poor countries against the Corona virus is not just a moral imperative but an economic necessity.

According to the new study, if the residents of rich countries such as the United Kingdom were vaccinated in a few months, and left the poor countries, global losses this year will reach 9 trillion dollars.

The study said that rich economies depend on international supply chains such as building materials, auto parts and textiles from non-immune countries, and thus will bear nearly half the cost of this economic burden, adding that the continued spread of the epidemic in developing and emerging markets will mean fewer customers for exports from countries. Rich.

According to the ICC report, the cost of fully financing the World Health Organization's programs to provide vaccines and treatments for Corona to developing countries, far from the 2021 funding targets, is about $ 27 billion.

"Advanced economies have a clear economic incentive to accelerate the distribution of vaccines on a globally coordinated basis," the researchers said.

The study indicated that even if developing countries were able to vaccinate half of their population by the end of the year - an unlikely scenario on the current path - the lost global GDP would still reach $ 4.4 trillion.

Since December, more than 40 million vaccine doses have been given in rich countries, but in middle and low income countries the situation is very different, as it is expected that most people will not be vaccinated until 2025, according to some estimates.
