Erfurt (dpa / th) - With a view to the ongoing corona pandemic, the Thuringian Ministry of Science is providing additional funds for digitization at the universities in the state.

In addition, the special fund "Digital University Teaching II" with 2.8 million euros to expand digital teaching formats, said Thuringia's Minister of Science Wolfgang Tiefensee (SPD) on Tuesday in Erfurt.

Since face-to-face teaching will only be possible to a very limited extent in the near future, the digitization of teaching, internship and research offers will continue to gain in importance.

According to the information, the money will be used in particular to hold lectures and seminars digitally and to develop new digital teaching formats.

In order to be able to implement this, the funds should make it possible to award the necessary additional teaching assignments and to recruit suitable lecturers and student assistants.

In addition, digital exams are to be implemented and the security of digital teaching supported.
