Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced the timing of the release of the COVID-19 vaccine developed in the center of Chumakov into civilian circulation.

He spoke about this during a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordination Council under the Cabinet of Ministers to counter the spread of coronavirus.

The head of the Cabinet said that "the Ministry of Health has received documents for the registration of another vaccine, the Chumakov Center."

“This is the third development of our scientists,” said Mishustin.

The prime minister added that "in the coming month, it will also enter civilian circulation, this will expand vaccination and make it more accessible, which means protecting even more people from coronavirus."

As the Prime Minister emphasized, it is necessary to gradually increase the production of all coronavirus vaccines so that they can be delivered to hospitals and clinics without interruption.

“It is important to arrange the process so that people feel comfortable and do not have to wait long,” concluded Mishustin.

Recall that the Chumakov Federal Scientific Center announced the beginning of clinical trials of its vaccine in early October.

Then the representatives of the institution said that we are talking about a whole-virion inactivated vaccine, in which the whole inactivated (that is, killed) SARS-CoV-2 virus was used.

The body is able to recognize and remember its antigenic composition and in the future, upon contact with the coronavirus, to react to all its manifestations, explained the general director of the center, Aydar Ishmukhametov, in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Currently, there are two coronavirus vaccines in circulation in Russia.

The first drug was "Sputnik V" from the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F.

Gamalei.

Later, the vaccine "EpiVacCorona" appeared, developed by the State Scientific Center "Vector" in the Novosibirsk region.

The head of the Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, said on January 20 that the department had received a package of documents from the Chumakov Center for the registration of a vaccine developed at this institution.

Murashko noted that at the moment the materials were sent for examination, according to the results of which the issue of state registration will be resolved.

"Thus, vaccines created using three different technologies will be available in Russia, which will undoubtedly become a serious contribution to the victory over the COVID-19 pandemic," the head of the Ministry of Health added.

The minister also mentioned that more than 2 million doses of vaccines have been shipped to the regions so far.

“And this week, almost 2 million doses of vaccine are planned for delivery (release for vaccination immediately after quality control),” the minister said.

Shortly before this, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova said that clinical trials of a vaccine against COVID-19 at the Chumakov Center showed the appearance of immunity as early as the 28th day after the first dose was administered.

“The data from clinical studies have confirmed the complete safety and low reactogenicity of this vaccine.

Most of the subjects showed the formation of stable immunity already on the 28th day after the first vaccination, ”she stressed.

During a briefing in the government on issues related to the start of mass vaccination against coronavirus in Russia, Golikova said that the vaccine of the Chumakov Center "KoviVac" is "an inactivated whole-virion purified concentrated vaccine", which is administered twice with an interval of 14 days and is stored at a temperature of +2 ... + 8 ° C.
