January 25, 2021 China has overtaken the United States as the world's top destination for new foreign direct investment in 2020, as the pandemic accelerates the shift towards the "dragon" of the global economy's center of gravity.

The Wall Street Journal writes it.

Last year, Beijing, long number two in the rankings, saw direct investment by foreign companies rise by 4%, compared to a 49% decline in the United States, according to data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Foreign investment in the US peaked in 2016 with $ 472 billion, compared to $ 134 billion in China, which has since seen them grow while in the United States they have fallen every year since 2017. In 2019, the US received investments of 251 billion, compared to 140 billion from China.

In 2020, overtaking: foreign direct investment in China amounted to 163 billion dollars, against 134 in the United States.

The total of foreign investments accumulated in the US is still much greater than that of the dragon.
