  • A student demonstration takes place on Tuesday to request the resumption of face-to-face classes for all students.

  • At the interuniversity service for preventive medicine and health promotion, the number of requests has increased sharply over the past year, particularly in financial and psychological aid.

The incessant flow of students has dried up for several months at the exit of the Mirail-University metro station.

In the alleys of Toulouse-Jean-Jaurès (UT2J), visitors are rare even if the university has more than 30,000 registered on all of its sites.

This is not the case with the corridors of the interuniversity service for preventive medicine and health promotion (Simpps).

There, the students wait to be received by a nurse or a psychologist.

“They are offered phone appointments, but many of them prefer to come see someone.

There is a real discomfort, they find themselves alone at home, in their small room, without exchanges and the possibility of making new acquaintances as is usually the case ”, explains Soraya Abdelouhab, one of the social workers of the hospital. service.

The latter has seen the number of requests for financial aid explode in recent months.

100,000 euros in emergency aid

Because small student jobs have disappeared, in particular in the catering sector, a real provider of jobs.

Suddenly, some are forced to push the door of the Restos du cœur, with which the university has a partnership, or those of the local social grocery store.

“Last year, we implemented emergency health aid of 200 euros per student, renewable and released quickly for those who need it.

100,000 euros have already been awarded, ”explains Emmanuelle Garnier, president of UT2J.

A way for those in the galley to fill their fridge when their bank account shows zero.

“I don't know of any students who aren't exposed at the start of the month.

There have been gestures, help, but for months most have no more jobs, they have not been able to make the season this summer.

Precariousness is real, in particular among foreign students who find themselves without resources and whose families are also experiencing difficulties at home, ”underlines Axel Loscertales, student vice-president of UT2J.

This Tuesday, he will participate in the demonstration calling for the reopening of universities and the return of all students to the benches of the amphitheater, not only the first years.

Because for him, to the financial problems which make them fall into precariousness, is added that of the psychological distress born of the courses in distance and the isolation.

And many of them call (05 61 50 41 41) to talk to doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists.

To the point that to cope with the increase in demands, the Simpps, which covers several universities, or nearly 100,000 students, has called for reinforcements.

"The psychological situation of the students is worrying, they must be able to turn to this service, that they know that it exists and have no reluctance to come", insists Nadia Pellefigue, the vice-president. of the Occitanie region in charge of higher education.

In addition to providing 4G keys and computers to more than 1,000 students, the community has partially funded additional positions for psychologists and social workers at Simpps.
