On January 8, the Central District Court of Seoul, South Korea issued a first-instance judgment against 12 victims of South Korean "comfort women" against Japan, and sentenced the Japanese government to pay 100 million won per person.

Since the Japanese government did not appeal, the judgment took effect at 0:00 local time on the 23rd.

Grandma Li expressed her sympathy with the court's stipulation that "comfort women victimization is an anti-humanitarian crime committed by Japan", and repeatedly emphasized that Japan compulsory mobilization of women.

Grandma Li also said: "What we want to say to Japan is, please apologize to us, this is not a question of money. If you really want to count money, it can't be solved by 100 million won, even 300 million won."

She also urged Japan to apologize sincerely, saying that "Japan said that it did not force us away, did not abuse us, do not lie, and reflect on the truth."

She also said, “The South Korean government should help the victims receive an apology from Japan as soon as possible.”

Grandma Li said that she has a dream, which is to travel to Japan to promote the victimization of comfort women.

"Our history is an unforgettable history. We must spread the word to the masses. Our country can no longer be led by the nose."

Among the 12 plaintiffs who received the effective judgment this time, only 5 people including Grandma Li are still alive.

On the other hand, according to Korea Broadcasting International (KBS) on the 25th, although the judgment has taken effect, the Japanese side does not recognize the Korean court's judgment at all.

The Japanese government issued a statement in the early morning of the 23rd local time, saying that it deeply regrets this.

Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Toshimitsu Motegi emphasized in his speech that the Korean court’s decision clearly violates international law and the Japanese side will never accept it.

This judgment violated the "Korea-Japan Claim Agreement" and the 2015 Agreement on the Issue of Comfort Women, requiring the South Korean side to be held accountable and correct.

In response to this, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued its position, refuting the Japanese talks one by one.

The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the government has no right to prevent the victims from asking questions, and urged Japan to face the issue of comfort women in the Japanese military as an unprecedented issue that violates international law and tramples on the human rights of women during the war.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea reiterated that the agreement on comfort women signed in 2015 is a formal agreement between South Korea and Japan, and clearly stated that the agreement is still valid.

The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that Japan should proceed from the spirit of apology and make sincere efforts to heal the wounds of the victims.

At the same time, the South Korean government will negotiate with the victims and continue to make unremitting efforts to successfully solve the problem.
