Berlin (dpa / bb) - After various drugs were found in a room in a shared apartment in Berlin-Hellersdorf, a 31-year-old was sentenced to three years in prison.

The accused wanted to trade in the narcotics, the district court justified its decision on Monday.

He had left a metal baseball bat on the sofa in his room as part of his illegal business as a self-defense.

As a result, the 31-year-old was found guilty of illicit armed drug trafficking.

In August 2020, police officers discovered 109 MDMA tablets, 323 grams of amphetamines, small amounts of cocaine and cannabis on the desk, sofa and in two wardrobes in the accused's room in a shared apartment.

In addition, cash of around 36,000 euros was seized.

The 31-year-old, who was in custody for five and a half months, had confessed to his defense lawyer.

His client sold drugs in the party scene, said the lawyer.

"He was not aware of the seriousness of the crime."

Like the prosecutor and the defense lawyer, the court assumed a so-called less serious case.

The verdict essentially corresponded to the prosecutor's request.

The defense attorney made no specific request.
