Dresden (dpa) - The 23rd edition of the Upper Elbe Marathon from Königstein to Dresden will be moved from April 25 to July 11, 2021.

As the organizer announced on Monday, given the current Corona situation, no reliable planning for April is possible.

Last year, due to the pandemic, the popular landscape marathon, in which around 5000 runners recently participated, had to be canceled entirely.

“Despite the slight decrease in incidences and the start of vaccinations, the pandemic will affect our everyday life in many areas for a long time to come.

We do not see any possibility of being able to run the Oberelbe Marathon on the planned date of the event in good quality, ”explained organization manager Uwe Sonntag.

The intensive and costly planning should have started now, said Sonntag and emphasized: "Another total failure would have consequences that would not be in our interest or in the interest of all participants."
