Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - There were problems with the start of appointments for corona vaccinations for older people.

Both hotline telephone numbers and the website www.116117.de were initially unavailable on Monday morning - the start was planned for 8 a.m.

Apparently the rush was very large.

It's about people aged 80 and over who live at home.

This population group is to be vaccinated in vaccination centers from February 8th, an appointment is necessary.

The administration of the vaccine is voluntary and free of charge.

Around 1.2 million people who are 80 years old or older live in NRW.

The Ministry of Health has recommended that the two appointments for the first and second vaccination be arranged on the Internet at www.116117.de.

There is also a telephone hotline, which should be manned from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Those who live in the Rhenish part of North Rhine-Westphalia should dial the toll-free number 0800 116 117 01, people in Westphalia the toll-free number 0800 116 117 02. Both Numbers and the website were initially not available.
