Elections in Catalonia Salvador Illa will leave the Government tomorrow and Pedro Sánchez will announce his replacement after the Council of Ministers
Farewell to Salvador Illa at the Medicines Agency.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, said goodbye to his Minister of Health in a ceremony that was also attended by his virtual substitute, the Minister of Territorial Policy, Carolina Darias, after Moncloa confirmed this morning that Illa will leave his position to turn in the electoral campaign as candidate of the PSC to the Generalitat for the elections of February 14.
In the midst of the multiple criticisms of the opposition, for not having left before, even for doing it right now in the third wave, Sánchez has assured, in a brief intervention, that "it has been an honor to have worked side by side" with him and that he "understands" the decision to leave the Ministry to compete in the Catalan elections because "the challenge that you have ahead of you in the coming months and years is exciting, complex but very necessary for Catalonia and for Spain in the task of reuniting."
According to the president, throughout this time of the pandemic, Illa has demonstrated "public leadership, based on humility, the ability to work, determination and knowing what was needed in the health system."
"I have no doubt that it is also in Catalonia."
"I can only wish you luck and point out my eternal gratitude as a public servant that I am too."
