Every day you will get the most important news here on svt.se and in Rapport, Aktuellt or Morgonstudion.

The most important news from Sweden and the world.

Someone might think that I, who is responsible for several editorial offices based in Stockholm, do not support the investment in local journalism.

But that is completely wrong.

The investment is relevant and I see that we at the national news have a lot to gain from it.

To be completely honest.

The criticism of Stockholm fixation in SVT's nationally broadcast program is the same as the first Aktuelltsändningen in 1958. I and my representatives have used roughly the same variants of answers: Stockholm is the capital, government and parliament sit in Stockholm, the large companies often have their headquarters here.

In the Stockholm area live 20 percent of Sweden's population etc etc. All these are true and fully valid arguments.

But this is also true: We who work with the national supply work and live mostly in Stockholm.

There is a risk that we casually see Stockholm as the norm.

Therefore, our opportunities to make interesting and good Swedish coverage increase with strong local journalism.

I am pleased that SVT is now further investing in local news.

The investment also places demands on me as the responsible publisher for svt.se, Aktuellt, Rapport and Morgonstudion.

Four reporters based in Malmö, Gothenburg and in two other locations have the special task of making news for the nationally broadcast news programs.

In addition, we have the entire gold mine that other reporters at the local newsrooms produce.

The local material both on svt.se and in the TV programs is extremely important.

We keep accurate statistics and our goal of two to three elements in Report 19.30, we live up to almost every day.

But counting elements is one side of the issue.

What also pleases me is that we are collaborating more and more on investigative journalism.

Excavation editor Jenny Küttim has for a year now deepened and intensified the collaboration with the local newsrooms.

Our investigative journalism is getting so much better with more perspectives and a greater geographical spread.

Several corona reviews have been made in collaboration with SVT's newsrooms across the country, such as the excess mortality in the country's nursing homes both during the spring and now again during the second corona wave.

The inspection of the accident with security alarms has also been done together with local colleagues as well as the inspection of the unguarded railway crossings.

So, I realize I'm going to continue to explain and defend the “Stockholm fixation”.

I will continue to use the completely true arguments about the location of power and that 20 percent of Sweden's population live here.

But the more perspectives and geographical spread, the better news for the audience throughout Sweden.
