Merkel and Biden had a telephone conversation

As reported in Berlin, during the conversation, Merkel announced the readiness of Germany and European partners, together with the United States, to take responsibility in solving world problems.

Merkel also welcomed Biden's decision to return the United States to the World Health Organization and the Paris climate agreement. 

"The Chancellor and the President also discussed foreign policy issues, in particular Afghanistan and Iran, trade and climate policy," the German government said.

In addition, Merkel invited Biden to visit Germany whenever possible.

Earlier, Merkel congratulated Biden and Kamala Harris on their assumption of the office of President and Vice President of the United States.
