In the Central African Republic, the armed forces killed 44 rebels who were trying to blockade the capital and overthrow the regime of President Faustin Archange Touadéra, the government said on Monday.

Attacks by rebel groups have prompted thousands of civilians to flee to eastern neighboring Cameroon.

The region has already hosted more than 5,000 Central African refugees.
