  • More than 40,000 young people in apprenticeship currently have no employers in France, half of them in Ile-de-France.

  • The region "has decided to offer an alternative to bounce back and find a job", announces the president of the community Valérie Pécresse by offering students without apprenticeship "to integrate vocational training".

  • The national association of apprentices of France (Anaf) wants "that young people remain in their training center until the end of the school year" and this "even without an employer".

Learning damaged by the coronavirus.

Weakened by the uncertain context, many companies, especially SMEs, have preferred to move away from apprenticeship channels for young people who are currently paying a heavy price for the consequences of the health crisis.

Results?

Many apprentices still find themselves without an employer.

They are more than 40,000 in this situation in France, half of which in Ile-de-France, according to figures for the region.

If in 2020, more than 440,000 apprenticeship contracts had been signed after an increase of 16% between 2018 and 2019, the situation has only worsened and on March 1, it could become "alarming".

“From this date, young people will be without solution, if nothing is done quickly to allow them to bounce back.

Such a result would constitute a huge waste at the collective level ”, reacted the president of the region, Valérie Pécresse in a letter sent this week to the operator of skills of local businesses (Opco).

She asks "that a partnership action be implemented" allowing young people to "integrate a vocational training leading to an equivalent diploma".

"The situation is complicated and distressing for these young people"

“On March 1, the ax will fall.

Until now, the state allowed students to be kept without a contract.

But the 20,000 students still without employers in Ile-de-France risk finding themselves without a solution.

They will have wasted six months.

We don't want that, ”insists the president of the region to

"We decided to offer an alternative to bounce back and find a job," adds the one who also repeats refusing the principle of RSA Jeune.

"As of February 1, we will allow these young people in CFA but without an employer to integrate vocational training which will lead to an equivalent diploma thanks to specific support".

Thus, the region intends to make available its catalog of more than 2,000 types of training actions leading to qualifications or certification up to master's level diplomas.

In addition, if the project does not match the offer, the individual assistance system (Aires) can finance any training up to 14,000 euros.

In both cases, the student will be a trainee in vocational training and "will receive the remuneration provided for this purpose, on a scale in the process of being revalued from 310 euros to 500 euros for all young people aged 18 to 25", let the region know.

Young people can also benefit from a 1,000 euros regional bonus if they enroll in a training course in a strained profession: health and social, digital, industry and construction.

"In any case, this switch from apprenticeship to vocational training will allow them not to waste a year", continues Valérie Pécresse.

Our dossier on apprenticeship

The national association of apprentices of France (Anaf) confirms the figure of "38,000 young people in apprenticeship without an employer, a high figure", but believes that the solution of Valérie Pécresse must intervene more in a second time.

“We want young people to stay in their training center until the end of the school year.

The ideal would be to finish what they started, even without an employer, because they can still find one and above all it can still enhance their CV without incurring new costs ”, develops Aurélien Cadiou, its president with

He emphasizes: “The situation is complicated and distressing for these young people.

Knowing that the context is still worrying.
