Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament is due to pass the local transport law on Thursday.

It should actually have been at the beginning of the legislative period, now it will be passed in the last plenary sessions before the state elections, said the green parliamentary leader Bernhard Braun on Monday in Mainz.

It makes local transport a compulsory task for the municipalities, buses and trains should be thought of together.

“The big tasks still lie ahead of us,” said Braun.

Because the local transport plans would first have to be developed and financially supported.

For the Greens, cycling and walking are also important.

His party is striving for a guarantee of mobility, i.e. getting from A to B by different means of transport.

The transport policy spokesman for the FDP, Steven Wink, said that the draft for a new local transport law sets more attractive framework conditions for local public transport (ÖPNV).

It should lead to individual timetables being more closely linked in the future.
