It is part of Luxor's old TV factory that will now become a shop where Motala residents will be able to borrow used items such as skates, rackets and golf clubs for free.

- There are over 100 leisure banks in Sweden and at the head office in Karlstad they say that everyone is growing out of their premises, so we are starting big, says Robert Ström who is unit manager for leisure in Motala.

Growing trend

Fritidsbanken is a non-profit organization and the goal is for there to be lending points in all of the country's municipalities.

Gotland has had leisure banks both in Klintehamn and in Visby for a couple of years now.

Östergötland's is the only one in the Klockartorpet district in Norrköping and opened in 2017, but the leisure banks, like most others around the country, have been closed recently due to corona restrictions.

A rolling shop

Motala residents have donated lots of used equipment to the investment.

The business will be run by three leisure leaders in the municipality, but now they will not only work with young people, it is all age groups who will be allowed to borrow things.

The workforce will also be larger than that, the municipality's labor market unit will include people who need work training in the business.

The Motala project also includes a motorhome so that, in addition to the store operations, you can drive around with equipment to, among other places, schools and bathing areas.

In May, it is hoped to be able to open Fritidsbanken in Motala.
