Salzkotten (dpa / lnw) - After a gas leak in a residential building in Salzkotten, a family of five came to a hospital with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

The fire brigade assumes that the three children and two adults had inhaled too much of the odorless gas because of a defective heater, as the fire department chief said on Monday.

According to this, rescue workers were called to the house in the Paderborn district on Monday night because one of the children was doing badly.

When the rescuers arrived, their carbon monoxide alarms struck.

The family with three children was cared for by an emergency doctor and taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Several media had previously reported.

Measurements by the fire brigade confirmed a significantly increased CO content in the ground floor apartment, and gas was still measurable in the attic apartment above.

The oil heating in the building was put out of operation, then high-performance fans were used.

The police checked on Monday morning the exact cause of the accident.
