Police officers shot an aggressive German shepherd in Duisburg.

The dog was tied up in the situation, but was about to break free.

The animal had previously injured two people - including its owner (53), as the police reported on Monday.

A blowpipe with stun arrows did not work in the incident.

First of all, the German Shepherd Dog attacked, bitten and seriously injured its owner on Sunday afternoon in Duisburg-Obermeiderich directly on the banks of the Rhine.

According to the police, this happened after meeting another dog.

A witness (44) then managed to tie the animal to a stake.

The dog also bit the witness.

As a result, neither animal shelter employees nor service dog handlers of the police succeeded in calming the sheepdog.

"Again and again he tried to tear himself away and bit himself wildly," said the officials.

The blowpipe obtained from a veterinary clinic could not be used due to a technical defect.

"When the stake threatened to break out of the ground and the leash was about to break, the officers shot the sheepdog," said the police.

The dog's owner was taken to a hospital.

According to the police, the 44-year-old witness wanted to see a doctor.
