Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The SPD in the Düsseldorf state parliament is calling for free SIM cards for schoolchildren so that they can easily take part in digital distance lessons with tablet computers, for example.

From the perspective of the opposition, this would help children and young people who do not have a proper internet connection at home.

"The state and, if necessary, large housing associations should actively advertise for WLAN sponsorships in the neighborhoods," says a catalog of measures that the SPD intends to bring to the state parliament.

With regard to the SIM cards, the parliamentary group imagines that the federal and state governments "guarantee quick and immediate implementation with the major Internet and mobile phone service providers."

For the WLAN sponsorships, people who do not need their own network during the day should give neighboring children guest access.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, the distance teaching was initially extended to February 14th due to the current Corona situation.
