Kiel / Brokdorf (dpa / lno) - Anyone who wants to explain their objections to the planned decommissioning and dismantling of the Brokdorf nuclear power plant must do so via the Internet.

The so-called discussion meeting for the system in the Steinburg district will take place online because of the corona situation, as Energy Minister Jan Philipp Albrecht (Greens) announced on Monday.

When the non-public date will be has not yet been determined.

Initially, a face-to-face event was planned for October 2020, which was postponed to February of the current year in June due to the corona pandemic.

The ministry said it was not feasible even now because of the ongoing restrictions.

“It cannot currently be predicted when such a face-to-face event will be possible again,” said Albrecht.

"We want to finally enter the next phase with the immediate, safe and visible dismantling of the Brokdorf nuclear power plant."

In order not to delay the process any further, the objections would be discussed in an online consultation, said Albrecht.

Details on how to register for the procedure are to be published on February 8th.

Operator PreussenElektra applied for the shutdown and dismantling of the power plant at the end of 2017.

According to the Atomic Exit Act, it may only be operated until the end of this year.

In addition, an application was made for the construction and operation of a storage facility for low and medium level radioactive waste.

The public hearing is required by law.

Anyone who raised objections between June 15, 2020 and August 18, may explain them in more detail.
