January 25, 2021 Less than 48 hours to understand what will become of Italian sport at the Olympics. The d-day is set for Wednesday 27 January, the day of the meeting of the Executive of the International Olympic Committee which will have to rule on what the IOC has indicated as Italy's failure to respect the Olympic charter as regards the autonomy of the Cones. There is a risk of participation in the Tokyo Games without the flag and without Mameli's anthem. A signal from Conte's government - is the hope reaffirmed still today by the president of Coni, Malagò - in a very short time, could avoid what many people envision as a world 'fool'. At the hearing in the joint Commissions VII, VIII and IX of the Chamber of Deputies, Malagò said that "we can still solve this situation, until January 27, we have time to do it. The IOC does not ask for anything other than what the government Italian has always been committed to doing, for the first time on June 24, 2019 when the Executive signed the host city contract for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics ". In short, everything is in the hands of the Conte government, which, grappling with the crisis, has convened a council of ministers for tomorrow. Different parliamentary forces speak of a fool, from the Renzians Sbrollini and Nencini, to Gasparri di Forza Italia; Rampelli (FdI) asks for respect for the athletes, the League attacks Spadafora, Valente dei Cinquestelle asks for a targeted intervention by relaunching the request to intervene on the staff.

According to the president of Coni "we have reduced this way because the Sport e Salute company, which has become an emanation of the government, in the meantime has not separated the functions of the Coni: organic plant and assets. As part of its functions, the Coni cannot depend on a government company. I think there is the will to fix the situation but due to politics this speech has not been resolved in 25 months ". The president of Sport and Health, Vito Cozzoli, also in the hearing, stressed that "Sport and Health has never affected or attempted to affect the autonomy of the Coni. Does the IOC ask us for greater autonomy or ask us for a law? - added Cozzoli - From what we have read, a return to the past is called for. Sporte Salute had proposed a timely, simple, linear solution, which was also requested by Coni in a letter of September 2019. Evidently this solution no longer suits Coni. We invited Coni to help us define the service contract by law and we have not received an answer. We are available to give CONI the personnel and services it asks for but the feeling is that today it is only us who are looking for an institutional solution ".

Certainly there is the fact that for two years now the IOC has considered Italy not in line with the Olympic Charter and is technically punishable, as explained by Francesco Ricci Bitti, a long time member of the IOC and now president of ASOIF ( the body that brings together the international summer Olympic Federations). "I had a conference call with Thomas Bach, if they had already decided I would have known. The situation is still very clear: Italy has been out of the rules of the Olympic charter for two years and therefore also the patience of the people who generally look for solutions and not sanctions is at the end and therefore it is highly sanctionable. The only thing to see is whether the executive gives the sanction or decides on a 'conditional'. They are the only two possibilities. Of course, in two years there was enough time and this justifies the impatience of the IOC authorities ".

Gianni Petrucci, n.1 of the federbasket, does not believe "that the IOC has decided, but it is serious, because we are on the eve of the Executive of 27 and there are two cases: either there is no will, or there is no authority . It has never reached a point where the first Olympic Committee in the world, of a country that is at the top of the place for sporting and Olympic results, must be humiliated, because it has not yet been given complete autonomy to Coni. ".
