Munich (dpa / lby) - Caritas Munich and Upper Bavaria is calling for employees in day-care centers to be vaccinated as quickly as possible.

At the moment, they are assigned to priority level 3 in the vaccination sequence, criticized Gabriele Stark-Angermeier, head of the Caritas Association of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising on Monday in Munich.

Nanny would not be listed at all, even though they worked just as closely with children.

"We see an upgrade of these professional groups to priority group 2 as urgently necessary," demanded the expert.

According to Caritas, statistics from health insurance companies show that daycare staff is particularly affected by sick leave related to the coronavirus.

This proves that the risk of infection in daycare centers is at least increased.

Nevertheless, the employees went about their work in the middle of the lockdown, but could not always keep their distance, "because they swaddle babies and take small children in their arms when they need to comfort them," reported Birgit Weiß from the management of the Caritas centers in Upper Bavaria.

Caritas also called for the nursery professions to be valued as an important service to the community as well as the caring professions.
