Munich (dpa) - In the Corona crisis, inherited family businesses could be threatened with the end by the tax authorities, according to a SME association.
The background to this is that company heirs are only exempt from inheritance tax if they have continued the company for a long time and have retained jobs.
Now a "tsunami threatens to wash away family businesses in succession," warned the Union of Medium-Sized Enterprises on Monday in Munich.
The lockdowns and a lack of support would bring family businesses that had committed themselves to continue the business under difficult conditions into existential difficulties.
That will become apparent in the coming months, "the exodus of many companies is pending," said association president Yorck Otto.
The Corona aid is too complicated, of the 15 billion euros in funding from November, "barely ten percent has been paid out to date," and the three-month survival reserve demanded by companies has been used up in many places.
According to its own information, the Union of Medium-sized Enterprises represents around 70,000 small and medium-sized enterprises.
