Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia can budget around 20 million euros from a special program of the federal government to promote cycling in everyday life.

The funds can be used for bicycle traffic measures in the municipalities and for cycle paths on state roads, as the Ministry of Infrastructure announced in Erfurt on Monday.

Since the program is limited to 2023, Infrastructure Minister Benjamin-Immanuel Hoff (Left) called on the municipalities to register for funding.

According to the information, the new construction, renovation and expansion of bicycle traffic facilities and bicycle parking facilities are particularly funded.

In addition to the millions from the federal program, according to the ministry, 7.5 million will be made available in the state budget this year for municipal investment cycling projects.

The aim is to ensure that high-quality, safe and efficient cycling infrastructures are implemented.

These should have a lasting effect on everyday cycling and motivate more people to get on their bikes.
