"An identification error" led to the death with coronavirus of an old woman from the

San Rosendo Foundation

, which manages both centers, has a plant to serve nursing home users diagnosed with

coronavirus

.

A total of 11 elderly people with

coronavirus

were displaced there on December 29

from the Xove residence.

These transfers, the Foundation explains in a statement, were carried out with ambulances from the

Hospital de Burela

and "with the consent of the families and the Xunta's Health and Social Policy Councils".

Among the older displaced were two women, residents of Xove, who were assigned the same room and, due to "an identification error during the transfer process", on Wednesday, January 13, the death of one of them with the identity wrong, that is, with her partner's.

The funeral took place the next day, but the pandemic protocols forced the coffin to remain closed, so the family could not realize the error, according to municipal sources.

Everything was discovered when this Saturday morning, January 24, the woman who had been presumed dead was transferred again from Pereiro de Aguiar to the Xove nursing home, after having been discharged from

Covid-19

.

Notification to the courts

As a result of this event, the

San Rosendo Foundation

"deeply regrets the unfortunate incident" and reports that, after learning of the error, "it immediately proceeded to inform the families" and to send a letter to the courts of

Ourense

and

Viveiro

to warn of the facts and start the procedures to "repair" them.

In addition, this entity assures that "it has strengthened the control and monitoring measures for users who move from one residence to another", while "it has incorporated a more visual identification" when people are displaced.

"Despite the seriousness of these events, which have no precedent, the Foundation wants to convey to families a message of tranquility and trust. This is a specific event, among the more than 100 transfers that have been made since last month December to Os Gozos ", concludes the statement.
