A total of 41,603 decisions were made by the Swedish Transport Agency last year to revoke driving licenses across the country.

This was an increase of 13.4 percent compared to 2019 when 36,692 decisions on driving license revocations were made.

- We see a sharp increase in the influx of confiscated driving licenses from the police and that is the reason why the number of decisions from us is also increasing, says Mikael Andersson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Agency.

Nearly 1,400 revoked driving licenses in Norrbotten

There are a total of eight grounds for revocation in the Swedish Transport Agency's statistics and most often these are speeding leads to revoked driving licenses followed by medical reasons and drunk or drug driving.

After Västra Götaland (23.6 per cent), Norrbotten is the county where the second largest percentage increase is noticeable.

The increase last year compared to 2019 is 22.7 percent.

- It is normal that there are variations with what it looks like with this issue in different parts of the country.

The increase in Norrbotten County is large but is in line with what it looks like in most parts of the country, says Mikael Andersson.

Reduction in two counties

As in the rest of the country, "

substantial infringement, usually speeding

" (881) was the most common ground for revocation.

In 19 of the country's 21 counties, a percentage increase in driving license revocations was noticed from 2019 to 2020. Gotland (-17.6 per cent) and Kronoberg (-5.1 per cent) were the only counties where the number of driving license revocations decreased.
