The abundant snowfall over the past 24 hours has meant that the reindeer that are now on the coast do not get food in the forest as the snow is too deep.

They seek out the roads where it is easier to get there and stay there as the plow edges in some places are now almost two meters high and difficult to climb.

- It will be like a death corridor for the reindeer as the trucks thunder along the E4, says Lars Stenlund who had twelve of his reindeer killed in a single blow with a truck.

He continues:

- Probably there are more in this group of reindeer with broken bones and internal injuries that I have to kill.

Traffic hazard

He hopes that the Swedish Transport Administration will cut the edges and that the truck drivers will slow down.

- We do the best we can to get the reindeer off the road but we do not have time and I hope everyone takes it easy because this is a traffic danger for us, our animals and all road users.
