Germany will become the first EU country to use the experimental antibody treatment given to Donald Trump against Covid-19.

This was announced today by the Minister of Health, Jens Spahn.

"The government bought 200,000 doses for € 400 million," Spahn told Bild am Sonntag, then € 2,000 per dose.

The so-called monoclonal antibody treatment will be rolled out in university hospitals in the coming weeks.

Germany will be "the first EU country" to use this mix.

Spahn did not mention the manufacturer of the treatment, but confirmed that it is the same one administered to Trump.

"They work like a passive vaccination - he said citing the antibodies -. Administering these antibodies in the early stages can help high-risk patients avoid a more severe course."

Trump had been treated with a Regeneron drug, REGN-COV2, the American company Eli Lilly also developed a similar therapy.
