Halle / Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - After the South African variant of the corona virus has been detected in two people from Halle, there are initially no further suspected cases.

"At the moment there are no suspected cases, of course nothing is excluded and we will certainly find out new things every day during our research," said Halle's medical officer Christine Gröger on Sunday.

She did not want to give information such as the gender or age of the two infected so that no conclusions could be drawn about the people.

Both are in quarantine at home.

On Saturday, the first two cases nationwide with the virus variant B.1.351, which was first discovered in South Africa, became known.

Gröger had said that one of the infected people was infected in the work environment, the other when they came into contact at home.

The course of the disease does not differ significantly, if at all, from the coronavirus that has so far spread in the country.

The variant is suspected of being more contagious than the wild type of the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus.
