Hanover / Nienburg (dpa / lni) - In Lower Saxony, the incidence value of confirmed new corona infections has fallen slightly - but the Nienburg district remains above the critical seven-day level of 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants for the time being.

By Sunday morning, the state health department reported an average of 89.7 for the whole country, after 91.8 the previous day.

The total number of cases increased by a further 938 to 136 078, that of those who died in connection with a corona infection by 27 to 2971.

The situation in Nienburg is particularly tense.

The incidence of the district was still above the 200 mark, which also allows the corona protection rules to be tightened by the municipality concerned.

Over the past seven days, an average of 208.4 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants were registered here - by Saturday morning the value was 210.9.

A value of no more than 50 is considered decisive for the affordable tracking of contacts of infected people. The incidences in Lower Saxony remained high, especially in the Wesermarsch district (162.6) and the Helmstedt district (150.1).

The absolute number of corona infections in the Nienburg district last rose by another 32 to 1859. A spokesman said that the local crisis team wanted to discuss how to proceed on Monday morning.

He has not yet commented on stricter protective measures.

It is already foreseeable that the district will probably not restrict citizens' freedom of movement within a 15-kilometer radius.

"But we will examine various other measures," it said.

A large part of the infection process is currently taking place in nursing homes and hospitals.

There was also a corona outbreak among patients and employees in Nienburg's Helios Clinic, as well as in several old people's homes.

To support the homes and the hospital, support from the Bundeswehr and aid organizations was requested.
