Berlin (dpa) - Problems with the central input screen in Tesla cars have called the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) on the scene.
According to information from “Bild am Sonntag”, the authority has initiated proceedings against the electric car manufacturer.
The KBA asked the US group to provide the authority with information about possible safety risks of the touch-sensitive screen in the center console of various model series.
The US transportation authority NHTSA asked Tesla to call back in mid-January because of these safety risks.
Around 158,000 of Tesla's older S and X models built between 2012 and 2018 are affected.

Specifically, it is about storage space problems with certain computer chips, which can lead to failure of the central touchscreen screen, which is used to operate various vehicle functions.
The US authorities warned about impairments of the reversing camera or the driver assistance program.
A KBA spokesman said “Bild am Sonntag”: “The Federal Motor Transport Authority has been informed of the facts, it is in contact with the NHTSA and, in turn, has initiated the examination.

It remained unclear how many cars in Germany could be affected.
