Gettorf (dpa / lno) - Many zoo animals miss the interaction with visitors during the weeks of the lockdown.

Animal parks in Schleswig-Holstein have therefore, for example, developed extra employment offers or are even more concerned about offering the animals variety.

In the Gettorf zoo, the ring-tailed lemurs are already looking forward to the craftsmen who walk past the monkey house, as zoo biologist Gabriele Ismer says.

"They miss the fact that they have nothing to watch."

The zoos themselves also use the time to renew or redesign facilities and enclosures.

In the Eekholt Wildlife Park, for example, according to the managing director, the sea eagle aviary is being rebuilt and the bird care station expanded.

Boredom with some animals is one thing zoos have to deal with during lockdown.

The other is the costs, which continue to run in almost the same amount, without any significant income on the other hand.

We continue to work normally, we continue to plan all our projects, ”says the managing director of the Gettorf Zoo, Jörg Bumann.

However, these were of course significantly lower, "because we simply lack the income one hundred percent, but the costs continue to run almost at the same level".
