Celle (dpa / lni) - The so-called mask man, sentenced to life imprisonment, has been extradited to France for a possible further crime.

As a spokesman for the Ministry of Justice in Hanover confirmed on Saturday, Martin N. was brought from the Celle correctional facility to the Offenburg JVA on January 20, where he was handed over to the French.

RTL and NDR had previously reported on the case.

According to this, the 50-year-old is said to have kidnapped and killed a boy from a school camp in Brittany in 2004.

In Germany he had abused little boys for years and murdered three of them at the ages of eight, nine and 13.

Between 1992 and 2001 he crept masked to the beds of his victims in northern Germany at night.

In 2012 he was convicted by the Stade Regional Court.

Now he is to be called to account in France too.

The higher regional court in Celle had granted a European arrest warrant in December.

He should return to Lower Saxony after a maximum of eight months.
