Berlin / Düsseldorf (dpa) - The former left-wing parliamentary group leader Sahra Wagenknecht wants to run for the Bundestag again in September.

«I am happy to run again in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Right now it is bitter to counter the social injustices and the government's mismanagement in the Corona crisis with convincing alternatives, ”she said on Saturday.

Previously, the state board of the North Rhine-Westphalian Left had supported Wagenknecht's candidacy at number one on the state list with a two-thirds majority.

But there was no formal decision, as a spokeswoman announced.

Wagenknecht led the Bundestag faction from 2015 to 2019 together with Dietmar Bartsch, but then no longer ran for the post after a burnout and hard arguments with the party leadership.

To this day she is one of the most prominent politicians in her party.
