Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The Brandenburgers will have to replace their everyday masks with better protective masks from this Saturday in public transport, in shops and offices.

According to the state government, surgical masks, FFP2 masks and those with the designation N95, P2, DS2 or KN95 are permitted - but without exhalation valve.

The stricter mask requirement applies in buses and trains including stops, in retail stores - including parking lots -, for physiotherapy and foot care and in offices with the exception of fixed spaces and if the distance can be maintained.

Among others, children up to the age of six are excluded.

Schools remain closed - except for final classes and special schools.

The daycare centers are basically open, but have to close if the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants exceeds 300 in one week.

That was the case on Friday in the districts of Ostprignitz-Ruppin and Spree-Neisse and in the city of Cottbus.

The districts and independent cities can pull the emergency brake below this value.

The new rules apply until February 14th.

An ordinance from the Federal Ministry of Labor is intended to oblige employers to enable their employees to work from home - if the work permits.
