Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After the presidium of the NRW-SPD, the state board of the state parliamentary group leader Thomas Kutschaty has now nominated for the chairmanship of the party and as the top candidate for the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2022.

The regional association announced this late on Friday evening after a meeting in Düsseldorf.

A state party conference on March 6th has yet to approve the proposal.

The team around the former Justice Minister Kutschaty is to be supplemented by Nadja Lüders as Secretary General, Marc Herter, Elvan Korkmaz, Veith Lemmen, Sören Link and Dörte Schall as Deputy Chairperson and André Stinka as Treasurer.

In addition, the state executive nominated Rolf Mützenich for the top spot on the SPD state list for the federal election.

Mützenich is head of the SPD parliamentary group in Berlin.

Kutschaty is supposed to lead the Social Democrats in North Rhine-Westphalia out of the crisis.

The previous party leader and member of the Bundestag Sebastian Hartmann had renounced a new candidacy this week after a month-long power struggle in the state association with the largest number of members.
