Magdeburg (dpa) - The SPD top candidate for the federal election, Olaf Scholz, has called for better pay for systemically relevant professions.

In the crisis, everyone applauded the "Corona heroes", Scholz said on Saturday at a digital party conference of the SPD Saxony-Anhalt.

"But we can't just clap when everyone is in need," said the Vice Chancellor.

"We have to ensure that our society changes and that these systemically important professions will continue to be paid better in the future."

The SPD will ensure that, announced Scholz.

To this end, he reiterated his demand to raise the minimum wage to 12 euros and spoke out in favor of higher collectively agreed wages.

The finance minister also called for more recognition for apprenticeships.

Some people who have decided to work in a trade or in care for the elderly have the feeling that their work is not recognized in the same way as that of academic professions.

That is a problem.

Scholz addressed the 100 delegates at the online party congress in a video message.

The Saxony-Anhalt Social Democrats wanted to vote on their program for the state elections on June 6th.

The comrades had submitted more than 300 amendments to the draft program of the state leadership.

The SPD currently governs together with the CDU and the Greens in Saxony-Anhalt.
