Antholz (dpa) - Franziska Preuß reached fourth place in the last women's individual race before the biathlon championships in February, Vanessa Hinz and Marion Deigentesch just missed the World Cup norm.

In the mass start competition in Antholz, Italy, the 28-year-old Vice World Champion Hinz came in 18th after four mistakes in the last shooting. After a penalty loop, Marion Deigentesch was 19th over the 12.5 kilometers.

In the individual race over 15 kilometers on Thursday, Hinz was twelfth, Deigentesch was eleventh.

Whoever wants to go to the World Cup actually has to be in the top eight or twice in the top 15 in the World Cup.

"After the week in Antholz we will sit down together, analyze the performance and decide which team to go to Pokljuka for the World Cup", Bernd Eisenbichler, the sports director of the German biathletes, had already announced.

The best German ski hunter in Julia Simon's victory was Franziska Preuß in fourth.

The 26-year-old was nine seconds behind the French, who had to run three penalties.

"A bit of a shame that it was the fourth, but I'm already satisfied," said Preuss on ZDF.

The Swedish Hanna Öberg and the Austrian Lisa Theresa Hauser took second and third place - just like Preuss, they only shot one mistake.

Janina Hettich (3 penalties) and Denise Herrmann (6), who had already qualified for the World Cup, came in 21st and 26th. Maren Hammerschmidt, who also passed the World Cup standard, did not qualify for the mass start.
