Schwerin (dpa / mv) - As for so many, 2020 was not a good year for the organizers of summer open airs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Major highlights have been canceled due to corona requirements and partially replaced by smaller events.

Be it the Störtebeker or Vineta Festival, Pirate Open Air, Müritz Saga, the Schwerin Castle Festival or the festival in the Neustrelitz Castle Garden - the big events are set to return this year.

The coming season will probably not be completely normal either.

"Corona is of course an issue," says Anna-Theresa Hick from the Störtebeker Festival on Rügen.

"Of course we hope that we can take place."

How exactly, that will show in due course.

Set up disinfectant dispensers, organize inlet and outlet in groups, extend breaks - all of this is conceivable.

Because of distance rules, Hick expects fewer spectators overall.

The booking system is currently being reprogrammed so that places remain free.

You can still reserve tickets.

For the Pirate Open Air in Grevesmühlen, the grandstand is currently being expanded without further ado.

The organizer announced that there will be more than twice as many rows of seats as before.

Only every second row is occupied and a free space is automatically booked for each booking.

Nils Düwell from the Müritz saga in Waren is optimistic: "I have no doubt that we will perform the Müritz saga".

Smaller performances like last year are possible.

"But we're not wasting any energy on an alternative program at the moment."

The sanitary area is currently being rebuilt so that it works as contactlessly as possible.

The catering area will also be redesigned so that there are not too many waiting guests.

The Theater und Orchester GmbH Neubrandenburg / Neustrelitz (TOG) is also thinking about a corona-compliant game operation.

"Carmen" was originally planned for the festival in the Neustrelitz palace garden.

Spokeswoman Wenke Frankiw said that it would probably not be possible to do this with a large choir in conformity with the corona.

And for the summer spectacle in the Neubrandenburger Schauspielhaus, people are currently thinking about how to adapt the musical "The Addams Family" to make it more corona-compliant.

The Mecklenburg State Theater had to cancel the open-air opera “Fidelio” last year.

Among other things, it has announced the musical “Titanic” for this year's Schlossfestspiele in Schwerin.

The Vorpommersche Landesbühne wants to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Vineta Festival on Usedom in 2021.

The specific design is based on Corona, said spokeswoman Martina Krüger.

Only at the end of the week did the Landesbühne have to postpone pieces after the lockdown extension.

Longer rest periods are used to expand or renew technical systems.

In addition, employees and actors in Anklam would help with corona contact tracking.

Last year only smaller events were possible for the Landesbühne.

The festival is actually about opulence, explains Müller.

That doesn't work so well on the «back burner».

Easter will show how much opulence Corona allows.

Then the traditional Easter spectacle on the beach in Zinnowitz will kick off the Vineta season.
