The government is working this weekend to introduce a travel ban on Norway to reduce the risk of the spread of infection.

"The decision will be made in the near future," the Interior Minister announced via his press secretary.

The Minister of the Interior does not want to comment on this further, but according to Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, the ban will take effect on Monday night and last until 14 February.

She says in a comment to the news agency NTB that she understands that Sweden is introducing an entry ban.

- This is the case in many countries in Europe.

Norway has always been among those who had the strictest rules.

We can not complain that the Swedes say that they do not want this mutated virus, she says.

New recommendations

Everyone who travels into Sweden from Norway, or who has recently been to Norway, is encouraged to test for covid-19 and avoid contact with others, according to new recommendations from the Swedish Public Health Agency.

- It is reasonable that we do our best so that we do not get an introduction of it in Sweden, says state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell at the Public Health Agency.

When the new recommendations can be removed is unclear right now.

- It depends entirely on the situation in Norway.

We hope that the Norwegians quickly get control of this, then we can go back to normal again, says Anders Tegnell.
