Niebüll (dpa / lno) - Deutsche Bahn and the local transport company nah.sh are increasing the regional train connection between Niebüll and Westerland on the island of Sylt with additional trips.

From Monday, January 25th, 1500 additional places will be made available on weekdays, the Deutsche Bahn announced in a message on Saturday.

The plan is to use three additional trains in the morning and to open up four trips on the Sylt Shuttle plus for local transport.

The background to the increase in capacities is the efforts to prevent contacts in confined spaces in view of the corona pandemic.

The additional offers are intended to better distribute passengers and commuters on the highly frequented route on the trains.

The Schleswig-Holstein Economics and Transport Minister Bernd Buchholz (FDP) asked both employers and workers for support with this goal.

Wherever possible, start and end times should be flexible, he said.

In particular, the number of passengers should be reduced at peak times.

The additional offer is initially valid until March 25th.
