Hanover (dpa / lni) - Although the majority of the students are currently being taught at home, the state government of Lower Saxony wants to stick to the dates for the final exams in schools.

“At this point in time, I think it is wrong to cancel the exams.

This is an inopportune debate, ”said Minister of Culture Grant Hendrik Tonne (SPD) of the German Press Agency in Hanover.

"The students are entitled to a fair test."

The school management association of Lower Saxony had asked in mid-January to cancel the exams.

However, the proposal met with resistance from teachers in particular.

The teachers warned of "emergency degrees" that could lack recognition nationwide.

Education Minister Tonne now said that postponing the Abitur exams was “unlikely because it would only bring a few additional days”.

But he added: "We will decide in the next few weeks whether there will be any postponements in the intermediate degrees."

Tonne emphasized that the country had already made it possible to exclude content that was not dealt with in class from the exams.

"The schools also have a greater choice of tasks for the central exams," he said.
