Windhoek (dpa) - The German pop singer Mickie Krause (50) performed at a benefit concert in the Namibian desert under the motto "Stars under African skies".

Because of the strict Corona restrictions that also apply in Namibia, only 50 people were allowed to attend a lodge instead of 400.

The pop star with the fluffy hair performed together with singer Peter Wackel and will give two more concerts this Saturday.

The proceeds will go towards building a school for the Himba people - Krause is an ambassador for the “Fly & Help” initiative of the Reiner Meutsch Foundation.

"We will fly to the Himbas on Sunday, where two schools will be opened," said the singer after the concert, which was one of his first in a long time due to the Corona restrictions.

“That was a great event, everything was just right here,” he said later and emphasized: “That was really good”.

The mood was good and the audience was very confident of the lyrics when they were singing along.

But because of the general corona restrictions, he feared a cancellation until the last second, said Krause, who said he was in Namibia for the first time.

With the benefit concert he wanted to “set an example” because he firmly believed in the value of education.
