Berlin / Fulda (dpa) - More and more people are discovering baking bread for themselves in the pandemic.

Recipe bloggers and course providers report strong interest.

The bakers are also pleased: By baking bread, many people become aware that it is very time-consuming and not always easy, says Daniel Schneider, General Manager of the Central Association of the German Bakers' Trade.

“This experience also results in a conscious attitude towards high-quality bread and first-class baked goods from the guild bakers,” says Schneider.

According to the nutritional psychologist Christoph Klotter from the Fulda University of Applied Sciences, bread not only plays an important role in nutrition historically.

He also sees the current bread-baking trend as a substitute for the lack of contacts: "This can also compensate for social deficits".
