January 23, 2021 A 59-year-old woman from Modena, originally from Carpi, was raped and killed in Santo Domingo, where she had lived for about ten years, and a man was arrested.

The body of the woman, Claudia Lepore, was found the day before yesterday in a refrigerator where it had been for at least three days.

The opening of the refrigerator was blocked by a ladder: it is not excluded that the woman was frozen to death inside.

The victim was bound and gagged.

The body was found in the woman's home in the residential area of Bavaro.

To report the news of the murder is the Resto del Carlino of Modena quoted by Ansa.

According to the investigations, as reported by the Dominican press, the motive is economic.

To report the disappearance of Claudia Lepore was a friend from Modena, with whom the 59-year-old had started a bed & breakfast in 2009.

The arrested man is called Antonio Lantigua and is 46 years old: he would have been "hired" by someone to carry out the murder upon payment of 200 thousand pesos (equivalent to just under three thousand euros).

In the past Claudia Lepore had managed the "Bel ami" bar in Carpi and once she decided to change her life, she had started the "Villa corazon" bed & breakfast in Santo Domingo with her Modenese friend.

The 59-year-old had then left the b & b to try to start another business on her own.

As it turns out, Claudia Lepore had spent most of 2019 in Carpi and returned to Santo Domingo in January 2020 to sort out the last few deals before returning to Italy for good.
