Rostock / Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The corona pandemic led to a significant increase in the number of consultations at the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania consumer centers last year.

Around 4900 consultations were counted, as the consumer center in Rostock announced on request, citing preliminary annual figures.

In 2019, it was around 1,800 fewer.

At the beginning of the pandemic, consumers reportedly had a particularly large number of questions.

In March and April 551 and 643 consultations were counted - more than in any other month of the year.

Many also searched for answers online.

The homepage of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania consumer center registered almost twice as many calls in 2020 as it did in 2019.

According to the consumer advice center, the many corona questions became clear, for example in the area of leisure.

This includes topics such as travel, concert tickets or contracts with fitness studios.

Here, the number of consultations rose from 2019 to 2020 by around 1,000 to 1,363.

With the beginning of the travel warnings, there was a sharp increase in questions, for example about package tours, cruises or booked holiday apartments.

Over the summer, the situation relaxed somewhat in view of the falling number of corona cases, before many questions came up again with new travel warnings.

The year was not only associated with great uncertainty for consumers, but also for the consumer advice center itself, it said.

Employees would have had to deal with facts that had not been clarified by court, such as the ban on accommodation in Germany.
