Berlin (dpa / bb) - Despite the increasing demand for FFP2 masks, the Berlin pharmacies currently see no supply bottlenecks.

"The delivery situation is stable," said the spokesman for the Berlin Pharmacists Association, Stefan Schmidt, on request.

The pharmacists had already set up sufficient supplies for the supply of risk groups in the weeks before.

Since mid-December, members of such groups have been able to get FFP2 masks free of charge in pharmacies.

So far this has worked without any problems.

With the new regulation from this week, the demand for the cheaper but simpler surgical masks has risen rapidly.

But there are no bottlenecks here either, said Schmidt.

Despite increasing demand, prices have so far been stable.

On Tuesday the federal and state governments agreed that simple cloth mouth and nose covers are no longer sufficient in many places.

From Sunday, medical masks will also be mandatory on buses, trains and shops in the capital.

With a corresponding notification from their health insurance company, people over the age of 60 and people with certain pre-existing illnesses can collect a total of 15 masks free of charge from the pharmacy in several phases until mid-April.
